PERSONAL  DATA



FAITH KEKANA





Started singing professionally in the early eighties.  We formed a trio (women) called Shadiii.  Anneline Malebo – former member of a renowned group called Joy.Tshidi Leloka – who is now in New York and myself.



We performed around Southern Africa and neighboring countries – like Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia.  At the same time we were doing a lot of session work, backing vocals for different artists – naming a few Chicco Twala, Mike Fourie, Ray Phiri, Trevor Rabin from the group called RabbitsBarbara Thompson from the Club 58 – was the manager.



She devised a project “Reap that Righteous Rift” which was a success.

After the group disbanded, I venture into acting and did a couple of series for the T.V



HIGHLIGHTS



When Hugh Masekela returned from exile, in the early nineties I worked with him.  He had a project called Sekunjalo.  We toured South Africa, and also toured the U.S.A. for three months.  While in the States we worked with Cindy Lauper.  She was doing an album.

Mama Africa – Miriam Makeba invited me to join her after re-entering into the country and recorded her album.  We even did live shows, toured Europe, Germany and Switzerland

I also and still from time to time work with them.  We did Montreauz Jazz Festival and a few shows in Europe.

Again, I worked with Jonas Gwangwa.  At the same time I did a lot of session work and Jingles with Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chakachaka and Rebecca Malope and Moses Molelekwa.
 
I featured in his first solo album as a solo voice.  Vusi Mahlasela’s latest C.D. – featured me – and did backing voices also Mango Groove – I did solo in their first album
 
Year 2001 Miriam Makeba initiated a tribute to one of the acclaimed singers Dolly Rathebe.  Subsequently, a major production was in place for this tribute – SURF sponsored it.  I am proud to announce that I was one of the people involved in this Production.  People like Hugh Masekela were also involved

I also performed at the World Economic Forum with Letta and Caiphus.My whole life evolved around music

2004 I was in Greece for two months on a tour with a group called: “The World and Manos Hadjidakis” one of the acclaimed composers of our time.

2004 / 2005 in France for three months working with a group called ‘IMUVRINI”

Performed at Winnie Mandela Birthday Celebration at Ghallager Estates

I sang a dedicated hymn to the most influential and a respected South African. Faith also sang at Nelson Mandela Concert in Johannesburg concert ‘’Madiba Africa Concert-Father of Nation”
I have recorded my first C.D. – which is now released (Titled – Areyeng)
